Hiring in competive Markets such as Web2.0
January 11, 2008
I just read an interesting article from “asktheheadhunter.com” I really believe hiring managers and executives should read it because it will give them awareness of hiring practices that are NOT working for them.
It is common sense but sometimes when you are focused on achieving the results of hiring top tier people you tend to forget your manners.
The article is title “how employers poison their well” Being rude and not treating applicants with courtesy will absolutely hurt your hiring in the future. Unfortunately in the Valley, I think companies get very caught up in just getting the right people on board that they forget their manners and treat non-qualified candidates poorly. Guess what, they have friends that maybe qualified and the will not recommend them to your company.
The first impression is the most important.
Being conscience of people’s time is a very important rule of thumb. Realizing your time is no more valuable than theirs is something to be mindful of when you are in hiring mode.
I know many companies have soured reputations due to the lack of tact with applicants.
If you want to compete and get highly qualified people on board, treat them like you would like to be treated yourself. It will serve you in the future.
Don’t poison your well. It can have a major impact on your company.
